7-day itinerary for the Machame Route on Mount Kilimanjaro:
Day 1: Arrival at Machame Gate (1,800m) – Machame Camp (3,000m)
- Drive from Arusha or Moshi to Machame Gate.
- Complete registration and trailhead briefing.
- Trek from Machame Gate to Machame Camp.
- Distance: ~11 km, Duration: 4-6 hours.
- Overnight at Machame Camp.
Day 2: Machame Camp to Shira Camp (3,840m)
- Trek through lush rainforests and moorland.
- Ascend gradually, enjoying scenery.
- Distance: ~9 km, Duration: 5-6 hours.
- Overnight at Shira Camp.
Day 3: Shira Camp to Lava Tower (4,630m) then to Barranco Camp (3,960m)
- Hike to Lava Tower, a key acclimatization point.
- Descend to Barranco Camp.
- Distance: ~10 km, Duration: 6-8 hours.
